Results
LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall's women's team entered
Sunday trailing Gettysburg by 33.5 points. The Diplomats will throw
13 swimmers at the problem with nine swimmers in the championship
finals and four in the consolation finals. They will contend with
seven Bullets in the championships and four more in the
consolations on the Centennial Conference's final night of
Championship competition.
The 1,650-yard free is broken up over the day's two sessions.
F&M has six swimmers, compared to the Bullets four, vying for
those points.
About 14 hours after posting an automatic qualifier in the
100-yard backstroke, Brittany McCabe set the tone for the day,
advancing to the finals in the 200-yard version of the stroke with
an NCAA B-Cut time of 2:07.21.
The Diplomats will look to gain ground in the 200-yard
butterfly, having qualified three for the finals and two for the
consolation finals. Gettysburg will field one swimmer in both the
consolation and championship. First-year Olivia Hill was F&M's
top qualifier in the fly with a 2:12.94. Laura Bassford and Emily
Zacherl qualified in sixth and eighth place with respective marks
of 2:15.67 and 2:19.10.
Meghan Karanian raced to the fourth best qualifying time in the
100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.54. She will chase down
Washington's Kathy Gerhart and Gettysburg's Maggie Mulderrig, who
posted the top qualifiers at 53.73 and 53.74, respectively.
F&M established the first and third best qualifying marks in
the 200-yard breaststroke. First-years, Samantha Sweeney and
Katherine DeCrosta clocked respective times of 2:30.51 and 2:31.79.
Swarthmore's Stephanie Su was sandwiched between the fummers with a
2:31.60.
