RADNOR, Pa. - 110 minutes failed to produce a winner as Franklin
& Marshall tied #7 Cabrini 1-1 in non-conference men's soccer
action Wednesday night. The Diplomats played a man down for 76
minutes and save for one play, kept the Cavalier's offense in
check. 34 minutes into the game, F&M's Eric Elicker received a
red card, forcing the Diplomats to play with 10 men the remainder
of the game.
Both goalies were under attack all night as Cabrini (6-2-1)
fired off 28 shots and the Diplomats (4-2-1) took 15 shots on goal.
F&M's Zack Zamek stopped ten shots in the contest, bringing his
record to 4-2-1. Cabrini's Bryan Johnson turned away eight shots
and goes to 6-2-1 for the season.
The Diplomats lit the scoreboard first midway through the first
period. Matt Krantz took the ball off a restart and found Eric
Corsini who fired a shot from 30 yards out for the goal in the 21st
minute.
F&M's defense stood tall playing a man down, but were unable
to keep the Cavaliers off the board. Cabrini answered in the 53rd
minute when Brian Raffle fired a line drive, off a Brian Moran
pass, just out the reach of Zamek. Already shorthanded with the
card, the Diplomats were two players short at the time of the goal
as an F&M player was injured on the turf while play carried on.
The Diplomats recorded three shots in the first overtime
session, while the Cavaliers notched four shots in the second extra
period.
Neither team was able to find the net.
Franklin & Marshall returns to action September 26th when
they travel to Washington College.
