LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall collected their first
win in the 2009 campaign defeating Scranton 1-0 Saturday night in
non-conference men's soccer action. The Diplomats (1-1) got on
board when Charlie Welch headed Matt Melino's corner kick pushing
the ball through the top left of the net. The goal came just under
the 71-minute mark.
Both teams ended the contest in double-digit shots. The Royals
(2-2) got off ten shots and F&M shot 17 times.
Zach Zamek stood tall in goal, picking up his first win of the
year and his 14th career shutout. The Royals Brandon
Dombrowski was saddled with loss.
The first game of the evening between Eastern and Roberts
Wesleyan ended with a 3-2 Eastern victory. The Eagles, down 1-0,
rallied scoring two goals with under five minutes to play.
The game wraps up the 2009 Scrapyard Classic as all four teams
spilt each of their two games.
F&M returns to action September 11 when they take on La
Verne in the Elizabethtown College Classic. Game time is 5:00pm.
