WESTMINSTER, Md. - Franklin & Marshall's men won their
19th consecutive Centennial Conference (CC) swim meet,
knocking off McDaniel College 58-27 Friday evening. The Diplomats
(3-2, 3-0 CC) set three pool records at the Green Terror's (0-6,
0-5 CC) facility in the process.
The first record fell the first time the men hit the pool. Matt
Jaffee, Tom Grabiak, David Apple and Zach Wilt combined for a
1:39.89, taking near two seconds off of the 14-year old record
previously earned by Washington College on a Westminster visit.
Another Washington College record from 1996 fell before the night
was out. Jaffee swam the 100-yard backstroke in 53.77, besting the
pool record of 55.07.
Swimming in exhibition mode, Grabiak turned in a new pool record
in the 100-yard breaststroke at 58.83. The record had been 59.64,
set by a member of the Green Terror aquatic club. F&M posted
the top time in nine of the 10 races on the night. McDaniel's
Stephen Gomez managed a win in the 400-yard individual medley.
F&M freshman, Jake Reingold, captured a pair of victories.
He and classmate, Tom Bergstrom, went one-two in the 100 and
200-yard freestyles. Reingold swam a 50.51 in the 100, with
Bergstrom coming in less than a second behind. In the 200, Reingold
touched in 1:50.90, followed by Bergstrom at 1:53.35. Reingold.
The Diplomats will look to run the streak to 20-straight
tomorrow against Ursinus.
