Preliminary Results
LANCASTER, Pa. - Tom Grabiak swam an NCAA automatic qualifying
time to highlight the men's efforts for Franklin & Marshall
during Saturday's preliminary session at the 2010 Centennial
Conference (CC) Championships. Grabiak swam the 100-yard
breaststroke in 56:03 for the AQ, meet and conference record. He
will set his sights on the pool record this evening. The mark of
55.70 is owned by 1996 Olympian Kyle Salyards.
Grabiak will compete without any fellow Diplomats in the final
that will feature two swimmers from Swarthmore, the second place
team entering tonight's finals. The Garnet has 11 finalists
lined up for the evening session, compared to the Diplomats'
10.
There will be a pair of Diplomats to three Swarthmore swimmers
in the 100-yard backstroke, but it's the Diplomats with the top two
qualifiers. Matt Jaffee is the top qualifier with an NCAA B-cut
mark and meet record of 51.46 this morning. Teammate David Fell
followed him to the wall at 54:.44. Swat produced the fifth through
eighth qualifiers. F&M's Jonathan Friere will compete in
the consolation finals.
The Diplomats will look to score major points in the 200-yard
freestyle. Freshmen Tom Bergstrom and Jake Reingold placed first
and third in qualifying while, Conor Finnegan swam seventh.
Swarthmore's Neil Palmer is the only finalist with the eighth spot.
Bergstrom logged a 1:45.17, with Reingold making his final touch at
1:45.90.
Zach Wilt and David Apple will swim in the finals of the
100-yard butterfly. Wilt was the third qualifier in 52.55, while
Apple was seventh at 53.72.Mason Wash and Scott Rownd will race in
the event's consolation final.
Travis Catania finished second and Eliot Scymanski finished
fourth in 400-yard individual medley. Four members of the Garnet,
including top qualifier Tyler Hanson, will swim in the finals.
Catania's 4:16.58 was exactly a half-second off of Hanson's pace.
Max Blum, Lev i Schy and Jeremy Tourish will swim in the
consolation final.
The second session of finals gets underway at McGinness Pool at
6:00 p.m. The night will start with the 200-yard medley relay and
wrap up with the 800-yard free relay. All of the action can be
