Hampden-Sydney, Va. – Franklin & Marshall and
Hampden-Sydney went run-for-run as the teams put on a hitting
clinic resulting in a 10-10 draw Thursday evening. The Diplomats
picked up 17 hits while the Tigers managed 15 of their own. F&M
now sits at 4-3-1 while the Tigers rest at 8-6-1.
F&M recorded its last run in the seventh and Hampden-Sydney
grabbed its last two in the eighth en route to a scoreless
four-inning stretch and a tie game.
The Diplomats exploded onto the board in the first inning
tallying four runs off of three hits. Matt Will, Jason Anderson,
Nick Rolnick, and Eric Bornstein all scored runs. Hampden-Sydney
answered with a seven-run inning in the bottom half of the frame to
take the lead.
F&M scored one or more runs in the next four innings, while
their defense limited Hampden-Sydney to none. The Diplomats
scored two in the second and one each in the third through fifth
innings. Blue Wells and Bill Murray both knocked in a run and J.T.
Triantos brought two players home.
The Tigers added a run in the sixth to come within a run, and
F&M countered with one in the seventh. Sydney-Hampden added two
in the eighth before the both defenses settled in.
Triantos, Murray and Wells all finished with two RBIs each. Will
went 3-for-4 from bag with one RBI.
F&M used a pitching by committee approach, using five
pitchers. Nick Markel had the best outing, working three scoreless
innings. Marklel struck out four, issued one walk and allowed three
hits from the 13 batters he faced.
F&M returns to the diamond tomorrow when the Diplomats
travel to Averett for a 3:00 p.m. pitch.
