LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall scored four runs
in the fifth inning to lead the Diplomats to a 5-2 victory over
Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action. F&M
improved to 8-9-1 (3-2 CC) while the Bears fell to 8-10 (0-5 CC).
J.T. Triantos hit a one-out a single to get things started in
the fifth. Triantos moved to second on a Bill Murray single in the
next at-bat. Blue Wells hit a single down the left field line,
plating Triantos, giving F&M a runner on first and third. Jay
Anderson doubled to right field, clearing the bases, making it a
4-0 ballgame in F&M's favor. Russell Tischler brought
Anderson home with a single for a 5-0 score.
Murray's double to left field scored Matt Will in the
third inning for F&M's first run.
Matt Valente worked four innings before finally surrendering a
hit. He worked the deepest start of his career. Ursinus finally got
to him, firing off three singles to start the eighth. The Bears
picked up two runs in the inning, before Valente induced two
straight outs. Aaron Gillette caught Brandon Sullivan trying to get
an extra base, throwing him out at the plate.
Valente earned his first win of the year, working eight full
innings. He struck out five and forced seven grounds outs. Nick
Markel came in relief in the ninth, picking up his first save of
the year.
Steve Christakos took the loss, working the fifth inning.
Christakos gave up four runs on six hits.
Russell Tischler went 3-for-3 at the plate, knocking in a run.
Will finished 3-for-4 from the dish, scoring a run. Anderson picked
up two RBIs and scored a run.
Franklin & Marshall returns to diamond on Friday when the
Diplomats travel to Ursinus for a 3:30 p.m. ball game.
