BALTIMORE, Md. – Johns Hopkins scored 26 runs over two
games to sweep Franklin & Marshall in a Centennial Conference
(CC) baseball double-header Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays won
the first game 11-1 and took the second game 15-7. F&M fell to
11-13-1 (6-6 CC) while Hopkins improved to 24-3 (11-0 CC).
The Blue Jays jumped out to an early advantage scoring two
runs in the second frame to start game one. F&M cut the lead to
one with a run in the top of the third. Hopkins walked three
straight batters to load the base at the beginning of the frame.
With two outs on the board, Jay Anderson was hit by a pitch,
plating
Matt Will for F&M's lone run of the game.
Hopkins added runs in the next four innings to pull away and
pick up the win. The Blue Jays scored three in the third, one each
in the fourth and fifth, and tallied four runs in the bottom
sixth.
Sam Eagleson earned his seventh win of the year, pitching a
complete game and allowing one run. Eagleson allowed four hits and
had three strikeouts.
Nick Markel took the loss for F&M allowing 10 runs on 12
hits in 5.2 innings pitched. Markel struck out six and only walked
one batter. He fell to 2-1.
The Blue Jays jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage in the
first inning of game two. Hopkins added a run in the fourth to go
up 4-0. F&M got on the board in the fifth with an RBI by
Will. Johns Hopkins answered in the bottom of the frame, scoring
five runs to go up 9-1. They added two more in the sixth.
Both teams traded runs in the seventh. The Diplomats made a
late push in the eighth, scoring five runs, but Hopkins answered
with three of their own in the bottom of the inning to secure the
win.
Will knocked in three runs while
Russell Tischler and Anderson
picked up an RBI apiece.
Dave Kahn went 7-for-9 on the day with three home runs, seven
RBIs and six runs scored for Johns Hopkins.
Greg Harbeck took the win going six innings and allowing one
run on four hits. Harbeck had three strikeouts and one walk.
Mike Duranti was saddled with the loss in game two. Duranti
pitched four innings and allowed eight runs on eight hits. He fell
to 2-3 on the season.
Franklin & Marshall returns to action tomorrow when the
Diplomats travel Lebanon Valley for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
