ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley scored three runs in
back-to-back innings to come from behind and defeat Franklin &
Marshall 8-4 in a non-conference baseball game Sunday afternoon.
The Diplomats fell to 11-14-1 while the Dutchmen improved to
18-7.
Trailing by two runs, Lebanon Valley took the lead for good in
the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring three runs. With two outs,
a fielder's choice sent Dustin Deibert to first and a walk to Lee
Krammes moved runners to first and second. Conrad Heisey hit a
single to left, plating Deibert. Kevin Greene followed with a
single to left center, scoring two runs and the Dutchmen took a 5-4
advantage.
The Dutchmen added to their lead in the seventh, scoring three
runs. Mills drew a walk to start the inning and advanced to second
off a single to left by Colt Zarilla. A triple from Grant Wiest
scored both runners for the 8-4 final.
Franklin & Marshall struck early, scoring two runs on three
hits in the second inning. With one out, Jason Anderson hit a
double down the left field line and scored off a single to right by
Connor Devlin. A double through the right side from Andrew Conlan
sent Devlin home for the second run.
Lebanon Valley tied the game with two runs in the fifth.
The Diplomats broke the tie the following inning, scoring two
runs. Aaron Gillette singled to start the sixth frame and advanced
to second on a J.T. Triantos' sacrifice bunt. Matt Will took first
when he was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a passed ball.
Gillette stole third and crossed the plate on an error by the third
basemen, putting the Diplomats back on top. Two batters later,
Connor Devlin singled to right field, scoring Will, putting the
Diplomats up 4-2.
Derek Brousseau picked up the win, pitching five innings and
striking out two. Bobby Hayes took the loss, falling to 0-1 this
season. Hayes worked 5.2 innings and gave up five runs.
Devlin hit 2-for-4 from the plate, scoring a run and knocking in
two more.
Franklin & Marshall returns to action on Tuesday when the
Diplomats travel to Haverford for a 3:30 p.m. ballgame.
