COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's
five-run third inning led the Diplomats to a 12-7 victory over
Ursinus on Friday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball
action. F&M swept the season series with the win and improved
to 9-9-1 (4-2 CC). The Bears fell to 9-11 (0-6 CC).
After scoring two runs in the first, F&M found itself in a
3-2 hole to start the third frame. Matt Will doubled to start the
inning and J.T. Triantos followed with a single to left field. Bill
Murray doubled in the next at-bat, plating Will, and advancing
Triantos to third. Triantos crossed the plate minutes later on a
wild pitch, putting F&M back on top for good, 4-3. After Blue
Wells walked, Jay Anderson hit a single through the left side two
batters later, scoring Murray, giving the Diplomats runners on
first and second. Russell Tischler walked, loading the bases for
Nick Rolnick. Rolnick hit a double to left field which brought
Wells and Anderson home, for a 7-3 F&M advantage.
The Bears added a run in the bottom of the third and the
Diplomats countered with two of their own in sixth and seventh
innings. Triantos picked up three RBIs in those two innings and
Rolnick homered for the other run. F&M added another run in the
eighth.
Ursinus scored two more runs in seventh and one in the eighth.
Triantos, Murray and Rolnick all knocked in three runs apiece
for the Diplomats. Triantos finished hitting 5-for-6 and scored two
runs. Murray and Rolnick each homered in game as Murray batted
2-for-5 and Rolnick finished 3-for-5.
Murray's home run was the tenth of his career, moving him
into the fourth spot in F&M history. Scott Haft '05 owns
the top position with 14. Rolnick's bomb was his sixth
career home run, moving him to the 10th position.
Brendan McCreary picked up his first win of the year. McCreary
worked three full innings, allowing no runs and only two hits.
Ryan Furlong took loss. Furlong pitched two innings, giving up
seven runs.
Franklin & Marshall returns to diamond tomorrow for a CC
double-header against Muhlenberg. Game one with start at 12:30,
game two will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion
of game one.
