Walk-Off Wins

Game 1 | Game 2

LANCASTER, Pa. – It was Senior Day at Caplan Field, but it was two underclassmen that stole the show for the Diplomats. Aaron Gillette and Matt Will both hit walk off singles to left field to secure victories in a Centennial Conference (CC) baseball double-header Saturday afternoon. Gillette's came in the bottom of the seventh in game one, securing a 3-1 victory for F&M. Will's single came in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-3 Diplomats' victory in the night cap. F&M improved to 14-19-1 (9-9 CC) while the Green Terror fell to 5-12 (9-18 CC).

With the score tied at one apiece in the first game, Connor Devlin reached with a double to right center to start of the seventh frame. Nick Rolnick hit a single through the left side, giving F&M runners on second and third. The Green Terror intentionally walked Drew Atkins in the next at-bat, setting up Gillette's game winner.

McDaniel scored first with two runs in the third. F&M quickly responded with a run in the bottom of the frame. J.T. Triantos hit a sacrifice fly to left field, platting Gillette for a 2-1 score in favor of McDaniel. The Diplomats tied the game on a Devlin double in the fourth.

Nick Markel earned the win. Markel (3-2) worked a complete seven innings, striking out three and surrendering two runs. Zach Jones took the loss.

Devlin finished 2-for-2 with a run and a RBI. Gillette went 2-for-4, scoring a run and knocking in one more.

Game two ended in similar fashion with the Diplomats trailing 3-1 going into the bottom of the ninth. Rolnick started the frame off with a single and advanced to second on Devlin single in the next at-bat. Josh Mendelson laid down a sacrifice bunt, advancing both runners. Blue Wells came in to hit for Atkins and laced a double scoring both runners, tying the game at three. Gillette received a free base in the next plate appearance, putting runners on first and second, setting up Will's single.

F&M's bat were silent throughout most of the second game. The Green Terror built a 3-0 lead with runs in the second, fourth and sixth, before the Diplomats got on the board in the eighth. Will hit a single to left to score Gillette for the run.

Josh Gray picked up the win. Gray worked the ninth with one strike out. Danny Snight took the loss for the Green Terror.

Will went 3-for-5 with two RBIs in the game.  Triantos and Devlin both finished 2-for-4 from the plate.

Franklin & Marshall returns to action tomorrow when the Diplomats travel to Albright for a 1:00 PM game.
