LANCASTER, Pa. – Gettysburg scored four runs over the
final three innings to defeat Franklin & Marshall 4-0 in a
Centennial Conference (CC) baseball game. The game was a
pitcher's duel, as the first six innings remained scoreless.
The Diplomats fell to 11-11-1 (6-4 CC) while the Bullets improved
to 11-12 (3-6 CC).
Gettysburg broke the scoreless ballgame with a run in the
seventh. Clint O'Brien doubled down the leftfield line and
advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Craig Barrows. Drew Roy
singled through the left side, plating Barrows for the first run of
the game.
The Bullets added three more runs in the top of the ninth. Pat
Cody singled to get things started for Gettysburg. Matt Karis
doubled to right center, giving the Bullets a runner on second and
third. O'Brien hit a double to left field in the next at-bat,
scoring both runners, giving Gettysburg a 3-0 edge. O'Brien
took third on a wild pitch and crossed the bag on a Barrows
sacrifice fly for the 4-0 score.
Josh Gray was saddled with the loss. Gray pitched six
scoreless innings, giving up just four hits and one run. He struck
out seven and induced 10 groundouts. Gray fell to 2-2 this
season.
Ryan Taylor picked up the win, working a complete game. Taylor
struck out eight and gave up six hits.
Franklin & Marshall returns to the diamond tomorrow when
the Diplomats travel to Johns Hopkins for a CC double-header. First
pitch is slated for 12:30 p.m.
