Video: Goals From Gettysburg Game

LANCASTER, Pa. –  Giuseppe Bua struck in the third minute to provide all of the offense Franklin & Marshall needed to knock off Gettysburg 2-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) soccer Wednesday night. It was Bua's first goal of the year, but the third time in as many games he managed a goal against Gettysburg.  

Rob Hassler played a long ball into the box in the waning seconds of the third minute. Bua head trapped Hassler's feed to his foot and beat a sprawling Connor Darrell for the game-winning goal at 2:47. The Diplomats carried play through the remainder of the half but were unable to solve Darrell again in the half.

Gettysburg's best opportunity of the night came in the closing minutes of the first half on a free kick to the Diplomats' right post. The set was just beyond the reach of Dan McNamara.

The second half was all F&M as well. "Our back four made really good decisions all night," said F&M coach Dan Wagner. "Ben Beaver and Bua turned in their best performances of the season."

Beaver created the second F&M goal of the night catching Gettysburg unsettled in transition. Beaver's quick collection and redistribution of a pass left Ryan O'Connell an easy shot to the far left post. O'Connell buried his fourth of the season to make it the 2-0 final.

That was not the last quality opportunity for F&M. The Diplomats caught the crossbar twice in the second half, and Darrell came up solid on a Beaver breakaway. F&M outshot Gettysburg 12-5 on the night. Eight of F&M's shots came in the second half.

Zack Zamek needed only a pair of saves to ensure the shutout, the 20th of his career. The win was F&M's second shutout of Gettysburg in as many years. The Diplomats handed the Bullets a 1-0 setback on Clark Field in last year's meeting. The Diplomats are 3-1-1 in the last five meetings with Gettysburg.

Franklin & Marshall returns to action on Saturday against Haverford. The road game gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
