Diplomats to Play for Walker Cup

Franklin & Marshall women's squash will hold the top seed in the 2011 Walker Cup (C Division) Championship. The #17 Diplomats will open postseason play with #24 Tufts at 5:00 p.m. at Princeton's Dillon Gymnasium.

The Diplomats enter the tournament with a record of 8-10, and will aim to maintain their 17th ranking against a rather familiar field.

Hamilton (10-9), ranked 18th, is at the opposite end of the draw. F&M faced Hamilton earlier this season, taking a 5-4 win in Clinton, N.Y.  No. 1 Morgan Smith (5-11), No. 3 Roxanna Mead (8-9), No. 4 Katherine Barnes (7-10), No. 5 Sheena Suckoo (7-9) and No. 7 Elizabeth Gatling (9-9) all came up with wins. Barnes needed five games, while Gatling and Suckoo each needed four to subdue their opponents.  Hamilton opens play against #23 William Smith (9-5).

Should the Diplomats get by Tufts, they will await the winner of the #20 Bowdoin (6-13)/#21 Colby (8-13) match. F&M defeated both Colby and Bowdoin 8-1 earlier in the year. Should Hamilton advance, the Continentals will see the winner of the  #19 Wesleyan (12-10)/#22 Vassar (5-8) match. The Diplomats defeated Wesleyan 6-3 this year, but did not face Vassar.

Results will be posted on GoDiplomats.com throughout the weekend with a full round-up of action on Sunday.
