Diplomats Split Twinbill with Dickinson

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall split a Centennial Conference (CC) baseball doubleheader with Dickinson Sunday afternoon. The Red Devils took the first game 6-4 while F&M picked up a 12-7 victory in nightcap.

F&M (18-13, 10-4 CC) used a six run eighth inning to break a 6-6 tie and cruised to a 12-7 victory in the second game of the day.  With the bases load, Avery Attinson hit a double to right center to clear the bases and put F&M on top 9-6.  Russell Tischler scored Attinson with a sacrifice fly to the second basemen for the fourth run of the inning.  Alex Vescera and J.T. Triantos both hit RBI singles for a 12-6 F&M lead.

Dickinson (17-14, 4-10 CC) got a run in the ninth but Michael Morgenstern retired the last two batters and secured the victory.

The Red Devils took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning. F&M answered in the third with two runs to go up 2-1.  Will Benenson doubled to center field that scored Will and Eric Bornstein brought Benenson home with a double of his own.

F&M took a commanding 6-1 edge with a four-run fourth. The Red Devils answered with five runs in the sixth, setting up the Diplomats' eighth.

Attinson finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs to pace the F&M offense. Benenson went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs and Will crossed the plate twice for the Diplomats

Evan Lang earned the victory for F&M. Lang (2-1) worked 2.2 innings allowing just one hit. Sam Baxendale took the loss and fell to 0-1 on the season.

Dickinson struck first with two runs in the first inning of game one. Tyler Rosa scored Evan Hennessy and Jordan Kaufman plated James Santoro for a 2-0 Red Devils edge. Dickinson took a 4-0 lead off a two RBI double from Mike Schuster in the second frame.  Schuster crossed home three batters later for a 5-0 score.

The Red Devils added a run in the fourth to go up 6-0.

F&M struggled at the plate, remaining hitless through five innings. The bats came alive in the sixth as the Diplomats got four runs across the plate. Benenson hit a single to right field, which scored Alex Vescera for the first run of the frame. Bornstein plated Will and Mike Amabile brought two home with a single to right field for a 6-4 score.

Evan Fitzpatrick picked up the win and improved to 4-2. Brendan DeMond took the loss for F&M and fell to 2-2 on the year.

F&M returns to action on Wednesday when the Diplomats host Haverford at 3:30.
