LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall split a doubleheader with No. 16 Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball Saturday afternoon at Caplan Field. The Diplomats took the first game 3-2, and dropped a 10-6 game in the nightcap. F&M's win put an end to the Blue Jays 27-game CC winning streak dating back to 2009. The victory marked the first time since 2007 that F&M defeated Hopkins.

Brendan DeMond pitched a gem in the first game going all seven innings. DeMond allowed just one earned run on six hits and struck out nine.

J.T. Triantos paced F&M from the plate. Triantos went 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI.  Patrick Andrews finished 1-for-2 with a RBI.

The Diplomats (11-11, 3-2 CC) went up 1-0 with a run in the second inning.  Russell Tischler hit a two-out double to get things started and Andrews brought him home with a single in the next at-bat.

Johns Hopkins (11-7, 4-1 CC) tied game with a RBI by Steve Bejsiuk in the fifth. The Blue Jays went up 2-1 on a RBI single by Joe Borrelli in the top of the sixth. F&M tied the game in bottom of the frame to make it a 2-2 game.

Matt Will singled to start off the sixth and advanced to third on a single from Triantos. Will Benenson plated Will with a sacrifice fly to leftfield.

Avery Attinson got on base with a single to right field to get things going in the seventh. Aaron Gillette pinch ran for Attinson and went to third on two consecutive wild pitches. Alex Vescera drew a one out walk and Will was intentionally walked to load the bases for Triantos.  Hopkins brought its centerfielder to the infield, and shifted its outfield to the left, and Triantos made them pay with a walk off game-winning single to right field.  

Sam Eagleson (2-1) took the loss surrendering eight hits and three earned runs in 6.1 innings of work.

Triantos led the Diplomats from the plate in the second game.  He went 3-for-4 and scored two runs. Will Benenson was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored.

F&M got on the board first with a score in the third.  Vescera led off with a single and moved to second on a sac bunt from Will. Triantos singled down the leftfield line to give the Diplomats runners on the corners. Benenson reached on an error by the second basemen, which allowed Vescera to cross the plate.
 
Hopkins scored five runs over three innings to take a 5-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. The Blue Jays tallied three runs in the fourth and one in both the fifth and seventh innings.  The Diplomats answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at five apiece.

Vescera and Will both walked to start the seventh inning, and both moved up a base on a wild pitch, before Triantos was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Benenson drew a walk, which scored Vescera, and kept the bases loaded with no outs. Eric Bornstein hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Will for a 5-3 score. Mike Amabile walked and two catcher interference calls plated the Diplomats other two runs of the frame.

Both teams added a run in the eighth and went into the ninth tied at six. Hopkins plated four runs in the top of the inning for the 10-6 final.

Brendan McCreary took loss for F&M. McCreary (1-1) worked the ninth inning allowing all four of the Blue Jays' runs.  Aaron Schwartz (1-1) picked up the win in 2.2 innings of work.

F&M returns to the diamond tomorrow with a 2:30 p.m. game at Gettysburg.
