Blue Jays Rally Past Diplomats

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall fell to Elizabethtown 10-5 in non-conference baseball action on Sunday. The Diplomats (13-11) led for the majority of the contest, but the Blue Jays (15-7) rallied for nine runs in their final two innings at the plate to secure the victory.

F&M jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Kevin Shields notched the first of his two RBIs of the day. Shields sent a grounder to the left side of the infield that allowed J.T. Triantos to cross home plate from third.

Sam Gladstone made it a 3-0 F&M edge in the fourth with a two-out, two-RBI double to left center that plated Joe Gallitto and Andrew Conlan.

Elizabethtown tallied its first score in the bottom of the sixth after Dillon Tagle's RBI single through the right side of the infield, but the Diplomats responded with two runs of their own in the top of the seventh to take a 5-1 advantage. Shields notched an RBI double and Brandon Theriault delivered an RBI single in the frame to push F&M out to the four-run lead.

The Blue Jays answered right back with four runs in the bottom half of the seventh to even things up at 5-5, before taking the lead for good with a five-run eighth.

Andrew Green (2-1) suffers the loss for F&M after pitching one full inning. Starter Sean Cosgriff allowed just four hits and one run while striking out two in six innings of work.

Kris Davis (2-1) pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Elizabethtown to pick up the win. Jake Hoffstein started for the Blue Jays and tossed 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on four hits.

Shields led the Diplomats with a 2-for-5 performance at the plate with two RBIs and scored once, while Will Benenson went 2-for-4 and crossed home plate once. Gladstone also registered two RBIs with a double.

Steve Motika paced the Blue Jays with a 2-for-4 line with three RBIs and touched home once, while Tagle went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and also scored once.

The Diplomats return to Centennial Conference play on Tuesday as they host Ursinus at 3:30 pm.
