Triantos Ties All-Time Hits Record; Diplomats Romp Over Spartans

Box Score

YORK, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall rolled past York (Pa.) 12-4 in non-conference baseball action on Sunday afternoon. The Diplomats improve to 17-23 with the victory, while the Spartans drop to 22-20.

J.T. Triantos and Aaron Gillette led the way at the plate for the Diplomats, each knocking in three RBIs and scoring twice in the contest. Triantos's 3-for-4 performance gave him 173 hits for his career, moving him into a tie for first place in the F&M record book with Gary Kruger '06. Tyler Veterano also had a big day at the plate for F&M, going 3-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored, while Will Benenson and Blue Wells added two RBIs apiece.

Benenson's two-out RBI double in the first inning got the scoring started for the Diplomats, who took a 5-0 advantage with a four-run second frame. Joe Gallitto notched an RBI double, Triantos ripped an two-RBI double and Gillette tallied an RBI on a sacrifice fly to give F&M a five-run lead.

The Spartans responded with three total runs in innings three and four to pull within 5-3, but a five-run sixth gave the Diplomats a commanding seven-run edge as the game entered its latter stages. Veterano, Benenson and Wells each recorded RBIs in the frame, with a two-RBI single to right from Wells closing out the scoring.

F&M used a host of arms to earn the victory, putting six different pitchers on the rubber en route to the win. Starter Collin McCune tossed 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out one. Chris Haylon, Alex Guerra, Paul Giulio and Eric Herbst each pitched one frame in relief, with Andrew Green recording two innings on the mound. Guerra, Giulio and Herbst each delivered scoreless innings in the win.

Tyler Alexander took the loss for the Spartans, dropping to 1-4 on the year. Alexander managed just 1.1 innings and allowed five runs on six hits.

Colin Porter, Derek Pitzer and and Drew Frankenfield each notched two hits on the day for the Spartans.

The Diplomats close out their season on Thursday at St. John Fisher at 4:00 pm.
