Diplomats Dominate Dickinson

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – A goal and an assist from Chase TenBrook and a pair of tallies from Ben Beaver paced the Franklin & Marshall offense in a 4-0 drubbing of Dickinson on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action.

The Diplomats improved to 11-3-2 overall on the season, and picked up a much-needed CC victory to move to 4-3-1 in conference play. The Red Devils fell to 11-4-1, 4-3-1 with the defeat.

After a slow start from both sides in which 20 minutes ticked off the clock until the first recorded shot, F&M's offense began to hit its stride. In the 26th minute, Tenbrook battled for position in the box and sent a header over to Devon Malfitano on the right side, who sent a header of his own into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

The Diplomats only needed three more minutes to once again light the scoreboard, when a Dickinson foul in the box awarded Ben Beaver a penalty kick opportunity. Beaver opted for a try to the right side of the net, deflecting the ball off the keeper's hands and in.

F&M continued to pile on the goals in the second half when TenBrook continued his solid play with his third goal of the season in the 63rd minute. The score was set up with a Sam Lane shot on net that forced Dickinson's Reed Milbrath (7-2) to make a diving save.

Milbrath came up with the initial stop but sent the ball back out to the center of the box to a waiting TenBrook, who set up and fired a shot into the back of the net.

Beaver capped off the scoring onslaught in the 72nd minute when he worked around a defender from 10 yards out and notched his second tally of the contest and 11th of the season.  Beaver now has 43 goals in his career, which trails the school's all-time leader, Scott Runyon, by only one score.

Taylor Skelly (2-0) got the start in net and made the most of it, picking up the shutout victory with five saves through 90 minutes. Milbrath was charged with the loss after giving up four goals on seven shots.

The Red Devils had the edge on shots at 9-8, however F&M held the 6-4 advantage in the second half.  The Diplomats led on corners at 2-1, all of which occurred in the first.

F&M returns to the field on Saturday when the Diplomats close out their regular season with a 6:30 p.m. matchup with Swarthmore at Tylus Field.
