Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Elizabethtown downed Franklin & Marshall 59-48 in the Championship game of the Terry Greene Memorial Tournament on Sunday afternoon. The loss dropped the Diplomats to 1-1, while the Blue Jays improved to 2-0.
With 5:08 remaining in the contest, Emma Lisle hit a jumper to pull the Diplomats within one, 46-45. The Blue Jays answered by outscoring the Diplomats 13-3 through the final five minutes of action to come away with the win.
F&M came out strong in the first half, jumping out to a 13-7 lead with 12:38 to go as Jessica Dowicz scored six points during the Diplomats' early spurt. The Blue Jays were able to withstand the Diplomats' fast start and responded with a 10-2 run to go up two points, 17-15, with 8:24 to go in the first half.
With 0:28 seconds remaining in the first half, two free throws by Hannah Rose Nussbaum put F&M up by three points as the Diplomats took a 27-24 edge into the break. Nussbaum led the Diplomats in scoring in the first half with 10 points while Dowicz added 8.
In the second, the first nine minutes featured three ties and two lead changes with the Blue Jays eventually building a seven-point lead with 7:52 left in the contest. A Sarah Haddon jumper put the Diplomats up by two, but a jumper and 3-point basket consecutively by the Blue Jays put Elizabethtown back on top. The Diplomats scored six straight points over the next few minutes, including Lisle's jumper with 5:08 remaining.
Nussbaum led the Diplomats with 17 points, shooting 6-for-15 from the floor, while Dowicz added 10. Lisle racked up 14 rebounds and Kristina McCarthy tallied 10 points.
F&M had 53 rebounds while Elizabethtown recorded 46. The Diplomats held the Blue Jays to 28.6 percent shooting from the floor whereas F&M shot 30.5 percent.
F&M returns to the court Wednesday when the Diplomats head to Westminster, MD to take on Centennial Conference foe McDaniel at 7:00 p.m.
