F&M Falls in Opener

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - Franklin & Marshall dropped its season opener 13-3 to host Hampden-Sydney in its first game of the annual Floyd B. Wilcox Tournament on Friday. The Diplomats begin the year at 1-0 with the defeat, while the Tigers improve to 6-6-1.

Hampden-Sydney jumped out to an early advantage with a seven-hit bottom half of the second that produced eight runs. The Tigers went on to out-hit the Diplomats 15-7 in the contest and used a host of arms in relief to eventually notch the 10-run win. 

John Lloyd led the way for Hampden-Sydney with a 3-for-5 line and four RBIs, and Andrew Tucker tallied a 3-for-4 day with an RBI and scored twice.

Avery Attinson paced the Diplomats at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance and two RBIs, while Aaron Gillette went 2-for-3 with one RBI and scored once. Kevin Shields and Patrick Andrews each added a hit and a run scored in the loss.

Aaron Stidham and Connor Bradley (1-0) both tossed three innings for the Tigers, with Bradley earning the victory in relief. Hampden-Sydney used five different pitchers throughout the contest.

Brendan DeMond (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound for F&M in 1.2 innings of work.

F&M is back in action tomorrow against Frostburg St. at 3:00 p.m.
