Diplomats Prevail in OT

Box Score

READING, Pa. - Ben Beaver finished a feed from Olivier Streitz late in the first overtime period to lift Franklin & Marshall to a 1-0 non-conference victory over Alvernia on Wednesday night. The Diplomats (5-0-1) remain unbeaten with the win, while the Crusaders slip to 3-4.

After nearly 100 minutes of shutout soccer, the Diplomats were able to capitalize in the 98th minute on a score from Beaver, who tallied his team-leading sixth goal of the year. Streitz sent a cross into the box to Beaver, who buried it into the lower right of the net to give F&M the 1-0 triumph.

T.J. White posted his sixth straight shutout with four saves between the pipes for the Diplomats, while Crusader goalkeeper David Giannini tallied six saves in the loss. White and the F&M defense have now played over 570 minutes of shutout soccer to begin the year.

F&M outshot the Crusaders 11-10 and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Diplomats open up Centennial Conference (CC) play on Saturday at Washington College at 4:00 p.m.
