Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall dropped a 47-40 contest against Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Wednesday night at the Mayser Center. The Diplomats fell to 3-13, 1-8 CC, while the Red Devils improved to 4-11, 1-9 CC.
The game was close in the early going as Dickinson held a 9-7 lead with 10:46 to go in the first half. Throughout the next three minutes, the Diplomats kept the game close as it was 14-11 in favor of Dickinson with 7:34 left in the half.
From there, the Red Devils went on a 13-4 run to close out the half and go into the locker room with a 27-15 advantage.
Sarah Haddon led the Diplomats in the opening half, scoring five points and bringing down 10 rebounds.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Dickinson maintained their double-digit lead at 31-19 with 16:33 remaining after two fouls shots from Erica Buls. The Red Devils extended the lead to 18, their largest of the contest, after two free throws from Liz Schultz put Dickinson up 43-25 with 9:48 to go in the game.
F&M countered the Red Devils' spurt by scoring 12 straight points, capped off by two free throws from Hannah Rose Nussbaum to bring the score to 43-37 with 2:31 left. However, Dickinson was 4-for-4 from the charity stripe down the stretch to earn the 47-40 victory.
Haddon recorded her first career double-double for the Diplomats, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Kristina McCarthy brought down 14 rebounds.
Erica Buls paced Dickinson with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Sam Kennedy and Schultz each added nine points.
F&M outrebounded Dickinson 47-40, while the Red Devils bench outscored the Diplomats' reserves 20-6.
The Diplomats returns to action on Tuesday when F&M travels to take on Gettysburg. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
