TenBrook, No. 6 F&M Hammers Haverford

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – Chase TenBrook netted a pair of scores as the No. 6 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team kept its unbeaten record in order with a 4-1 bashing of Haverford on Saturday evening in Centennial Conference (CC) play. The win was the Diplomats first over the Fords since 2011, snapping a three-game slide, and improved their record to 14-0-1, 7-0 CC. Haverford dropped to 8-6, 3-4 CC with the loss.

Prior to the start of the Homecoming contest, F&M celebrated senior day by honoring its seven-member class of Jared Bomba, Sam Lane, Matthew Landy, Derek Pawlush, David Rosenfeld, Chris Scott and Max Watson

The Diplomats looked to get on the board early when a Janse Schermerhorn cross from the right-side led to a TenBrook deflection in the box in the fifth minute, but the ball sailed high of the net.

Twelve minutes later, the Schermerhorn-TenBrook connection paid dividends when a long throw in from Schermerhorn on the right side of the field hit off a Haverford defender and was one-timed into the back of the net by TenBrook. Bomba added to the lead less than two minutes later, taking a Sam Lane cross from the right of the field and heading a shot in from five yards out for the 2-0 advantage.

The Fords did not go away easily, coming out of the break with a burst of offensive pressure, and pulling within one off a Brady Seitz rocket in the 46th minute. F&M goalkeeper Trevor Britton was quick to regain his composure, charging out of the box on a long cross just three minutes after the Haverford goal, challenging a Fords' defender and picking the ball out of the air to end the threat.

A foul from Haverford on the far right side of the box in the 60th minute awarded Lane a penalty shot opportunity. The senior forward capitalized, opting for the lower-left corner of the net an extending the lead to 3-1.

TenBrook put the exclamation point of the Diplomats' victory in the 86th minute when a Jeremy Levine free kick from midfield went off the goalkeeper's hands and bounced out to the junior midfielder, who spun around in the box, lofting a shot into the net for his second score of the contest.

Britton turned back two shots for his 14th win of the season, a mark that is now just one shy of the program's single-season record, which was tied last season by T.J. White. F&M outshot Haverford by a 13-9 margin, and commanded corners at 9-0.

The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday, hosting Gettysburg for a 7:00 p.m. matchup. F&M can secure the number-one seed and home field advantage in the upcoming CC Tournament with a win over the Bullets and a Dickinson loss to Muhlenberg on Wednesday.
