Series History: Saturday's game marks the 100th meeting between Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall in a series that began with a 68-0 Franklin & Marshall win in 1890. The series is tied at 46-46-7, with F&M winning the contest last year.
The bulk of the series has been played out in Lancaster, with 69 of the 98 games on the books having been settled on the Sponaugle-Williamson gridiron. F&M holds a 38-27-4 lead in those games, while the Bullets lead 19-8-3 in games played in Gettysburg. The series is the longest for the Bullets and the second-longest for the Diplomats.
The game was played on Thanksgiving Day for four decades and the early 1980s, the contest would serve as the deciding game for Centennial Conference supremacy as the last game of the regular season.
The series took a 16-year hiatus when the Bullets went to the Middle Atlantic Conference University Division and the Diplomats went to the College Division in 1959. It resumed in 1976 and after five consecutive games in the month of September, the rivalry returned to a November showdown in 1981.
The Last Meeting: E.J. Schneider scored four times to help deliver Franklin & Marshall a 36-26 victory over Gettysburg last year on Nov. 16, 2013.
E.J. Schneider completed 14-of-25 passes for 159 yards and added 135 more on the ground on 16 carries and scored four touchdowns.
Frank Strumolo went over the 100-yard plateau for the third-straight week with a game-high 177 yards on 36 carries and a score. Jordan Zackery led all receivers with 81 yards on six catches and Tim Muller finished with 45.
The F&M defense was in the Bullets' backfield all afternoon, racking up 10 sacks and holding the Bullets to just 268 yards. Gettysburg came into the game with the second-best offense in the conference, averaging 481 yards a game.
Ryan Young led the group with 15 tackles (10 s); four went for a loss including two sacks. John Stark had eight stops while Brian Velasco and Leo Chubinishvili ended with six apiece. Chubinishvili, Brendan Wengerter and A.J. Koikoi all collected two sacks while Troy Harrison and Jonathan Cox picked up a sack apiece.
