Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall suffered a 74-50 setback at the hands of Susquehanna on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference women's basketball action. The Diplomats slipped to 2-8, while the Crusaders improved to 8-2.
The contest was close in the early going with the score knotted at 11-11 with 9:52 to go in the first. Five straight points from F&M, however, broke the game open for the time being and gave the Diplomats the 16-11 advantage with 8:25 left in the opening half.
Susquehanna's Jonaida Williams took over from there, scoring eight points in the midst of the Crusaders' 18-2 run over seven minutes of play, to give Susquehanna the 29-20 lead at 1:35. A 3-pointer at the buzzer extended the Crusaders' lead to 32-25 heading into the break.
F&M was unable to mount a comeback at any point of the second half, as Susquehanna sank nine 3-pointers on the day, including five in the second half. The Crusaders maintained their substantial lead en route to the 74-50 victory.
Emily Wetz led the Diplomats' offense with 12 points, while Sarah Haddon finished with 10 points to go along with nine boards, and Shannon O'Connor chipped in nine points off the bench.
For Susquehanna, Angie Schedler finished with a game-high 20 points, while Williams (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Nikki Komara (17 points, 11 rebounds) each notched a double-double.
The Crusaders led in total rebounds at 41-34 and shot 43.9% from the floor and F&M recorded six blocks on the day, including two from Haddon and Devandria Bernard.
The Diplomats return to action on Jan. 7 when F&M travels to Swarthmore for a 5:00 p.m. Centennial Conference (CC) clash.
