Game 3: Ursinus (2-0, 1-0 CC) at Franklin & Marshall (1-1, 0-1 CC)
600: F&M enters the week with a 598-478-47 all-time record and is just two wins shy of becoming the eighth Division III institution to amass 600 victories.
Series History: Today's game marks the 96th renewal of a series that dates back to 1894. The Diplomats have taken seven of the last 12 meetings, with the Bears coming out on top in three of the last four years. Franklin & Marshall holds a 63-28-4 lead in the series and a 20-11 lead since Centennial play began in 1983. The Diplomats won the initial contest by a score of 76-0 and the Bears picked up their first win over F&M in the sixth meeting, a 16-0 victory in Collegeville in 1902.
The Last Meeting: Ursinus scored 20 unanswered points and erased a nine-point deficit to defeat Franklin & Marshall 20-9 last season on Sept. 21st.
The Diplomats struck first on a 21-yard field goal by Connor Ryan seven minutes into the contest. Two possessions later, F&M went up 9-0 just minutes into the second quarter. The Diplomats started the drive on the Bears' 47 and marched 43 yards on eight plays when E.J. Schneider hooked up with Jordan Zackery on a nine-yard pass at 13:08. The extra point was blocked, resulting in the 9-0 score.
Ursinus did all the scoring after that, starting with a touchdown at 7:41 in the second quarter. The Bears went up for good over halfway through the third on a 66-yard drive that ended with Jason Golderer taking it in from a yard out to give Ursinus a 13-9 edge.
Chris Curran raced 57 yards down the field midway through the fourth to put the Bears up 20-9 and Ursinus forced F&M to turn the ball over on downs on the Diplomats next two possessions to secure the win.
Ursinus racked up 403 yards on offense led by Curran who threw for 190 yards and Golderer who racked up 115 yards on 29 rushes.
Schneider completed 22-of-42 passes for 193 yards and one score and added another 63 yards on the ground.
Paul McGann hauled in five passes for 49 yards and Zackery finished with 44 yards on four catches. Scott LaValva caught a team-high six balls for 35 yards and picked up 18 more on nine rushes.
Ryan Young led the defense with a game-high 10 stops (7s, 3a) and Chris DeStefano finished with eight tackles (6s). Brendan Wengerter had 2.5 sacks and ended with seven tackles while Brian Velasco also picked up seven stops. Aaron Fant had one pick and two pass breakups for the Diplomats.
