Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat by Dickinson on Saturday afternoon in the Centennial Conference (CC) Semifinals, hosted by Haverford.
The loss brought the Diplomats' record to 15-3 on the year, while the Red Devils (12-3-3) earned a spot in tomorrow's Championship game against Haverford at 1:00 p.m.
F&M will need to earn an at-large bid to make it into the NCAA Tournament. The Diplomats' fate will be decided on Monday at 1:30 p.m. when the NCAA Selection Show is set to take place. The link for the selection show is available by clicking here.
In the 73rd minute, Dickinson's Ward Van de Water broke a scoreless tie when a Jonathan Harper corner was headed over to Van de Water by Macsen Pritchard and placed into the top-right corner. Both Harper and Pritchard were credited with assists on the play.
Dave Martin made a late attempt on net in the 87th minute, but Dickinson goalkeeper Jermey Palcan was there for the save.
Action was tightly contested in the opening half as F&M led by a narrow 7-6 margin after 45 minutes of play. However, the second belonged to the Diplomats, as F&M led by a 12-4 margin including four on goal, but was unable to light the scoreboard. Corners also favored the Diplomats at 12-2.
Trevor Britton (15-3) was charged with the loss in net, stopping two shots through 90 minutes, while Palcan (8-3-3) earned the shutout with six saves. Devon Malfitano paced the F&M offense with five shots, followed by four from Chase TenBrook.
