Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Wesleyan used a strong second half to defeat Franklin & Marshall 12-6 in non-conference men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals improved to 3-3 with the win while F&M dropped to 2-4.
Wesleyan went up 1-0 just 49 seconds into game before Michael Bossidy found Chad Gamble at 9:34 for a man-up goal to tie the game at 1-1. The Cardinals netted two straight and took a 3-1 edge, but Gamble struck unassisted at 5:21 in the second quarter to bring F&M within a goal, 3-2, and Wesleyan snuck one through at 2:03 and took a 4-2 lead into the break.
The teams traded goals to start out the second with Sean Rogers connecting with John Barney for F&M's goal at 11:55, but the Cardinals answered with seven straight to put the game out of reach and took a 12-3 lead into the fourth.
It was all F&M in the fourth as the Diplomats tallied three goals in final frame. Barney found Rogers for the first score at 13:32 and Michael Bossidy fed brother Teddy Bossidy at 6:51 before Mike Wasik assisted Jack Gladstone with a little less than five minutes left to play for the final score of the contest.
Gamble finished with two goals while Rogers, T. Bossidy, Barney and Gladstone all had one goal each. M. Bossidy finished with two helpers while Rogers, Wasik and Barney all dished out an assist.
Connor Melillo paced the defense with five ground balls and three caused turnovers while Nick Wells caused three turnovers and Nicholas Drapanas along with Nicholas Zenobio both forced two turnovers each.
Timothy Mattessich took the loss in 39 minutes of action with five stops and William Poillon turned away two shots in relief and collected five ground balls.
F&M opens Centennial Conference action on Saturday when the Diplomats welcome Muhlenberg to Tylus for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
