F&M Earns Road Victory Over Washington

Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Wyatt Fabian's first-half goal was all No. 3 Franklin & Marshall needed Saturday night, defeating Washington College by a score of 1-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action. The win moved the Diplomats to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in the CC, while Washington fell to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

F&M took the lead in the 18th minute when Matthew Regueiro settled a ball played into the box and found Fabian with a pass across the face of the goal, which the sophomore centerback converted from close range. The goal was Fabian's second of the season, while the assist was also Regueiro's second of the campaign.

The Diplomats continued to dominate after the goal, with the Shoremen managing zero shots in the first half. As a result F&M owned the shot count 4-0 at the break, while also holding a 3-0 advantage in corners.

Facing a 1-0 deficit, Washington committed more players to the attack in the second half, firing off five shots in the opening eleven minutes and hitting the post on one attempt. However, the Diplomats were able to regain the upper hand, allowing Washington just one more shot for the remainder of the match.

In addition to calming the Shoremen attack, F&M was able to find a rhythm on offense, attempting eight shots in the second period. The closest call came in the 88th minute, when a Conor Pellas shot from about 25 yards out on the left side swerved past Washington keeper Josh Samuels and crashed off the inside of the near post before skipping across the goal line and out of danger.

At the final whistle, the Diplomats owned a 12-6 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks in addition to the 1-0 scoreline.

Ben Draheim led the Diplomats with four shots, followed by three from Chase TenBrook.

None of Washington's shots found the target, and F&M goalkeeper Trevor Britton finished the contest without being forced to make a save.

The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday, hosting Ursinus in a 4:00 p.m. matchup at Tylus Field.
