Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. – An 11-0 Dickinson run covering the last two minutes of the third quarter and the first two minutes of the fourth proved to be too much for Franklin & Marshall, dropping a 65-52 result to the host Red Devils on Wednesday night in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball. The loss dropped the Diplomats to 4-14, 3-9 CC while Dickinson improved to 10-6, 7-4 with the win.
Despite taking a 27-22 lead into halftime, F&M found itself in a tense third quarter, with a Devandria Bernard layup giving the Diplomats a slim 36-35 lead with 2:38 left in the period. The Red Devils responded by putting together an 11-0 run that stretched into the early minutes of the fourth quarter, giving them the first double-digit lead of the game for either team.
A Lindsey Powers triple and a bucket from Sarah Haddon stemmed the tide and cut the lead back to five with 5:41 left, but F&M was unable to erase the deficit as a 7-2 Dickinson run extended a nine-point, 50-41 with just under four minutes to play. A pair of treys from Powers kept the Diplomats close, but the Red Devils hit eight straight free throws in the closing moments to ice the victory.
A back-and-forth first half exemplified what was a tight contest with the exception of the decisive run. The first quarter featured three lead changes, with a 4-0 Dickinson spurt giving the hosts a 14-10 lead entering the second.
That lead would grow to as much as six, but F&M rallied behind six points from Erica Brown to take a 21-20 advantage with 2:48 left in the half. The Red Devils retook the lead momentarily at 22-21, but buckets from Sarah Pisani, Haley Pilone, and Brown fueled a 6-0 run to give the Diplomats a 27-22 edge at the break.
Brown led the way for F&M, finishing with 16 points and posting a 4-4 mark from the free-throw line.
Powers (13) and Pilone (10) joined Brown in double figures, while Pisani tied a career high with nine assists to go along with six points.
Helen Roberts paced Dickinson with 19 points, backed up by Jackie Joyce with 17 off the bench.
The Diplomats next play on Saturday, hosting Haverford for Alumnae Day. That game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
