Dickinson Upsets No. 2 F&M

Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. – The No. 2 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team fell by a 2-1 score against Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) competition on Saturday afternoon to close out the regular season.

The Diplomats dropped their first game in more than a month and now sit at 12-2-3, 7-1-1 CC with the loss while the Red Devils improved to 8-7-2, 5-3-1 CC.

With the decision, F&M falls to the No. 2 seed and draws No. 3 Johns Hopkins in next week's CC Semifinals, hosted by Haverford. Dickinson clinched the No. 5 seed with the win and will take on No. 4 Washington in the First Round.

Up-to-date conference standings can be found here.

In the 21st minute of the opening half, Dickinson got the scoring underway when Brendan McGovern took a feed from Danny Sheppard and put the Diplomats in a 1-0 hole.

Shots heavily favored F&M by an 11-4 margin in the opening half, including six shots on goal, but the Diplomats were unable to find the back of the net.

McGovern added on in the second half, tallying his second goal of the game after taking an assist from Ryan Brown to give the Red Devils a 2-0 edge.

Dickinson managed to fight off F&M's consistent offensive attack through the remainder of the frame. Ugo Okolie threaded a pass to Robert Maze in the closing minutes of the contest to cut the deficit to one, but it was too little, too late for the Diplomats.

Maze's tally was his fourth in three games and seventh in his last nine.

Overall, shots belonged to the Diplomats by a staggering 24-9 margin with a 13-5 edge in the second half. Corners also favored F&M at 14-3. Ben Draheim led the way with five shots, followed by Okolie with four and Zach Colton with three.

Goalkeeper Dave Reingold (12-2-3) was dealt the loss in net after allowing both goals and registering five saves in 90 minutes. Jeremy Paclan (6-5-1) was outstanding for Dickinson, turning back 11 shots to earn the win.
