Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. – A pair of first-half goals helped power the No. 12 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team past Stevens by a 3-0 score on Wednesday evening in non-conference competition.
The road victory improved the Diplomats' win streak to three games and moved their record to 8-1-3 overall while the Ducks fell to 5-4-1.
Jeremy Levine got the scoring started in the 27th minute when a Stevens foul led to a free kick opportunity at the top of the box. The senior captain buried the 20-yard shot on net to make the score 1-0 in favor of F&M.
Just six minutes ticked off the clock until Jason Tonelli pushed the advantage to two with his Centennial Conference (CC) leading eighth marker of the season. Tonelli put together a strong solo effort on the play, dribbling past the Ducks' defense and lighting the scoreboard.
In the 64th minute, the Diplomats once again made Stevens pay for a costly foul when Wyatt Fabian tipped in a Levine free kick to make the score 3-0. The goal was Fabian's first of the season, becoming the 12th Diplomat to register a tally in 2016.
Goalkeeper Dave Reingold (8-1-3) earned the win after recording two saves in 76 minutes of work. Christopher Amoruso saw the final 13 minutes of action. Mitko Bozinov (2-1) suffered the loss for the Ducks after picking up four saves and allowing three scores.
Shots favored F&M at 12-5, including a dominant 7-2 advantage in the opening stanza. Corners also belonged to the Diplomats at 9-4 with a 6-1 edge in the second.
Robert Maze continued his impressive freshman campaign with a team-leading four shots, followed by Tonelli with three.
F&M returns to CC play on Saturday, traveling to McDaniel for a 1:00 p.m. meeting with the Green Terror.
