LANCASTER, Pa. – Two strong relay efforts placed Franklin & Marshall men's swimming in fourth place out of 11 teams on Friday at day one of the F&M Invitational. The Diplomats collected 185 points on the night, while leaders Delaware totaled 283.
The meet's first event, the 200-yard freestyle relay, saw the Diplomats finish sixth out of 22. Eric Dietrich-Peterson, Ryan Caffrey, Timothy Gould, and Daniel Sanders teamed up to finish in 1:27.56, earning 48 points. Widener took first in 1:23.39, resetting the meet record in the process.
F&M again placed sixth in the second relay of the night, the 400-yard medley relay. Eric Lang joined Dietrich-Peterson, Gould, and Sanders to clock a time of 3:31.53. Top honors went to Delaware with a time of 3:24.34.
The Diplomats also got a pair of strong performances in the only individual event of the night, the 1650-yard freestyle. Matthew Pozmanter took 13th with a mark of 17:31.11, closely followed by Reeves Connolly in 17th at 17:41.27. Delaware's Kevin Basch won the event after touching the wall in 15:47.73.
F&M is back in the pool tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. for prelims of the 50-yard freestyle, 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, and the finals of the 200-yard medley relay.
