LANCASTER, Pa. – An 18-3 Elizabethtown run to close out the first quarter doomed Franklin & Marshall on Saturday night in the first game of the 2016-17 season, dropping a 73-46 decision to the Blue Jays in nonconference women's basketball. The Diplomats look to earn their first win of the season tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in the consolation game of the Terry Greene Tip-Off Classic against King's.

The scores stayed close early as Sarah Pisani sank a long three with 7:07 left in the first quarter to make the score 7-5 in favor of Elizabethtown. The Blue Jays took control from there, scoring the next 12 points and 18 of the next 21 to take a 25-8 lead into the first intermission.

The Blue Jays continued to roll in the second, using a 10-0 run to enter halftime up 41-17.

The Diplomats began to stem the tide in the third as six different players scored in the frame, but after three quarters Elizabethtown continued to lead 59-33. In the fourth, Pisani added five quick points and Ashlyn Petersen marked her collegiate debut with a three, but it proved to little too late as the Blue Jays emerged with the 73-46 win.

Pisani finished the game with a team-high 14 points, followed by Haley Pilone with nine. Lindsey Powers grabbed 6 rebounds to lead F&M on the boards, while Sarah Haddon pulled in five.

The Diplomats will face King's tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in the consolation game, while Elizabethtown will take on Lycoming in the championship game of the 2016 Terry Greene Tip-Off Classic.
