Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – A steady Dickinson effort proved to be just enough, defeating Franklin & Marshall 73-64 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball. The contest served as the last of the season for F&M, bringing its final record to 6-19, 4-14 CC on the year.
Following a short ceremony honoring F&M senior Emily Wetz, the first quarter displayed what would ultimately be a close game throughout. Four straight points from Sarah Haddon evened the score at six, before the Red Devils put together a 10-2 run to take a 16-8 lead with 4:33 left in the opening frame. Five quick points from the Diplomats cut the lead to three, but after one the visitors led 18-13.
Play remained close in the second, with the Red Devils extending a modest 27-19 lead with 3:28 left in the half. However, late jumpers from AnnMarie DiCarlo and Lindsey Powers kept F&M within striking distance, down 32-25 at the break.
Dickinson again threatened to pull away in the third, going up by 10 two minutes into the quarter. The Diplomats once more refused to go away, as Haley Pilone hit all three foul shots after being fouled behind the arc before a DiCarlo layup cut the deficit to 39-34 with 6:12 left in the period. An 8-4 Red Devil spurt closed out the period, and the game remained a tight 47-38 contest heading into the fourth.
The Dickinson lead returned to 11, 55-44, with 6:38 left to play, but a three from Powers cut the advantage back to six with 2:23 on the clock. A minute later a long three from Sarah Pisani shortened the deficit to five, 67-62, but F&M would get no closer as the Red Devils held on for the 73-64 victory.
Haddon put together a big game to cap her junior season, finishing with 18 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Erica Brown also recorded a double-double, tallying 16 points and pulling in 12 boards. Powers reached double digits with 12 to go along with six rebounds.
