Box Score NEW CANAAN, CT. – St. Lawrence downed Franklin & Marshall 18-6 in men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon and improved to 1-0 while the Diplomats dropped to 0-2.
F&M took the early lead when Sean Rogers found Michael Bossidy 1:30 into the contest. The Saints answered with three straight before the Diplomats struck twice to tie the game at the end of the first quarter. Rogers and Bossidy hooked up again for the first tally, and Riley Aviles found Rogers for the second score with 2:27 left in the first.
St. Lawrence hit another gear in the second and scored nine unanswered goals and took an 11-3 lead into the break.
Rogers struck unassisted early in the third to make it 11-4, but the Saints responded with seven straight and took an 18-4 lead early in the fourth. Aviles scored at 10:05 and Chris Brindisi found Billy Schwartz with 27 seconds for the final point of the game.
Nick Wells caused three turnovers with one ground ball while Mike Sanzone, Mike Rama and Nick Zenobio all came away with three ground balls.
Thomas Moore took the loss with five saves and dropped to 0-2 and Scott Hatch saw action in the second and finished with six saves. Ryan Fisher picked up the win with 11 stops for the Saints.
F&M held a 26-23 edge in ground balls, but the Saints outshot the Diplomats 41-28 and won 16-of-28 faceoffs.
F&M returns to action on Wednesday when the Diplomats travel to Susquehanna for a 4:00 p.m. game.
