LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's track and field team begins the spring portion of its schedule today, competing at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Open in Lynchburg, Va. Four individual point scorers from the Centennial Conference (CC) Indoor Championships return for the spring season as the Diplomats look to reach new heights.
2016 Diplomats
F&M has the talent to score points on the track and in the field. A group of last year's seniors that included Livia Meneghin, the school record holder in the shot put, will be missed, but a contributing freshmen class will fill the void as the Diplomats aim to improve on last year's eighth-place finish at the CC Championships.
Key Returners
Rebecca Swisher – Sr.
Alyssa Ward – So.
Morgan Gray – Sr.
Kaitlin Muccio – Fr.
Swisher returns for her senior season looking to reach the national stage for a sixth time. The four-time All-American placed seventh in the pole vault last year at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and is fresh off another appearance at the indoor national championships last weekend. The Lancaster native has claimed four straight CC indoor pole vault titles and three straight outdoor crowns, and looks to make it a perfect 8-for-8 this spring.
Ward returns for her sophomore season after claiming two medals at the conference championships last year as a freshman. A silver in the high jump and bronze in the long jump earned her Rookie of the Year honors as well. Another silver in the high jump at this winter's CC Championships will have her shooting for gold this year.
Senior Morgan Gray enters her final season looking to reach the podium again after taking fifth in the triple jump at the CC Indoor Championships. Muccio, a freshman, secured seventh in the 400-meter dash at her first conference meet this winter.
The Road Ahead
Other notable meets include the Little Three Meet at Gettysburg on April 2 and the Penn Relays on April 28-30.
The conference championships are slated for May 6-8, hosted by Dickinson.
