Yang, Murphy Victorious at CSA's

STAMFORD, Conn. – Sherilyn Yang and Fiona Murphy each won their opening matchup on day one of the 2016 CSA Individual Championships in Stamford, Conn. on Friday. 

Competing in the Holleran A and C draws respectively, both Diplomats' hopes of All-America status remain alive as the winner of each bracket is bestowed the honor. Ranked No. 33, Yang downed No. 64 Charlotte Knaggs of Cornell by a 3-1 (11-7, 10-12, 11-9, 11-6) score in the round of 16 and will face off against No. 32 Tara Shannon of Stanford in tomorrow's quarterfinals at 11:45 a.m. 

Murphy, ranked No. 35, also found success on day one, sweeping Alexia Echeverria (No. 62) of Trinity by an 11-6, 11-7, 11-3 tally. Tomorrow at 1:10 p.m., Murphy will continue her run with a matchup against No. 30 Ryan Morgan of Drexel in the quarterfinals. 

Emily Caldwell (No. 68) also competed for F&M in the D draw, falling by a 3-1 score (8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-7) against Penn.'s Michelle Wang. Caldwell will continue action Saturday at 10:20 a.m. in the consolation quarterfinals with a contest against No. 61 Kim Krayacich of Amherst.
