Swisher Places Ninth at NCAA Championships

WAVERLY, Iowa – Franklin & Marshall's Rebecca Swisher finished off her career on Thursday afternoon at the NCAA Championships in Waverly, Iowa, placing ninth in the pole vault. The senior cleared a height of 3.80 meters (12'-5.5"), narrowly missing out on the eighth-place finish needed to qualify for All-America status. Ithaca's Katherine Pitman took the title with a new meet record of 4.21 meters (13'-9.75").

Swisher opened competition by clearing 3.50 meters (11'-5.75") on her first attempt in the competition. She proceeded to clear 3.65 meters (11'-11.75") on her second attempt and 3.75 meters (12'-3.5") on her third try. Her fourth height, 3.80 meters, required only one attempt. However, she was unable to break her career best and clear 3.85 meters (12'-7.5"), ultimately placing ninth.

The Lititz native ends her career with five appearances at the NCAA Championships between indoor and outdoor seasons, and has earned All-America status on three occasions. She owns the F&M records for outdoor (3.84 meters, 12'-7.25") and indoor (3.81 meters, 12'-6") competition, and earlier this month became just the second athlete in Centennial Conference history to win eight titles in one event.
