Box Score

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall picked up another crucial Centennial Conference (CC) win, downing Swarthmore by a 1-0 score Wednesday evening on the road.

The Diplomats improved to 6-5-1, 4-1 CC while the Garnet dropped to 4-6-2, 2-1-2 CC.

Leading goal-scorer Jason Tonelli needed just 11 minutes of action to get on the scoreboard, cleaning up a Ben Draheim shot on net and burying the rebound opportunity for the 1-0 F&M edge.

That one-goal advantage held up through the remainder of the contest as the Diplomats' defense held strong and kept Swarthmore scoreless. The shutout was the fourth of the season and second in a row for F&M.

Goalkeeper Christopher Amoruso (2-1) was dominant with a five-save performance for his second shutout in a row. Through four games on the year, the sophomore has allowed just one goal in 315 minutes of competition.

Tonelli's goal was his ninth of the year and his fourth game-winner of the season. He has now scored a goal in five of the Diplomats' last seven contests. The senior forward led the team with four shots on Wednesday while Draheim recorded three.

F&M controlled the shot count at 18-8 and corners at 7-0.

A showdown between two of the top CC teams follows on Saturday when Johns Hopkins heads to Lancaster for a 5:00 p.m. showdown.
