Diplomats Hold Fourth After Four Sessions

LANCASTER, Pa. – Several strong team performances held Franklin and Marshall in fourth place after the second day of competition at the Centennial Conference (CC) Men's Swimming Championships on Saturday evening at F&M's Kunkel Aquatic Center. The Diplomats collected 341 points, just three behind Ursinus with 334. Gettysburg is in second with 399, while Swarthmore leads the pack with 511.

The 100-yard butterfly saw three Diplomats finish in the top five to total 47 points. Daniel Sanders led the way in second place, tying the school record that Eric Dietrich-Peterson set this morning at 50.86. Dietrich-Peterson cruised in at 51.07 to take third, while Richard Perry took fifth with a mark of 51.40.

Timothy Gould earned his first individual medal of the meet in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 51.91 to take third place. Jack Currie took second in the B final, adding another seven points for F&M as his time of 53.60 gave him 10th overall.

The Diplomats got another strong team effort in the 400-yard IM, paced by Jonathon Sinton in fourth with a time of 4:07.97. His teammate Eric Lang was next to touch the wall, earning fifth place with a time of 4:09.71. Matthew Pozmanter clocked a time of 4:17.92 to take fifth in the B final and 13th place overall.

F&M continued to perform well in the relays, as the team of Gould, Lang, Dietrich-Peterson, and Sanders stormed to a time of 1:34.43 and third place in the 200-yard medley relay. In the B final, Currie, Ryan Caffrey, Perry and Keith Kamons earned second place and 10th place overall with a mark of 1:35.45.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Dietrich-Peterson, Perry, Lang, and Matthew Murphy teamed up to finish in 7:01.51, good for fourth place. Sinton, Currie, James Connolly, and Reeves Connolly finished in 7:10.43 to take 12th.

Caffrey topped the field in the B final of the 100-yard breaststroke, earning nine points and taking ninth place after turning in a time of 59.58. Murphy was the lone F&M representative in the finals of the 200-yard freestyle, notching a 16th-place finish with a time of 1:46.52.

The final day of competition begins tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., with prelims scheduled in the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, and timed finals of the 1650-yard freestyle.
