BALTIMORE, Md. – After winning seven medals in her first two years at the Centennial Conference (CC) Women's Track and Field Championships, Alyssa Ward finally struck gold in her junior season, winning two gold medals on Saturday at the CC Championships. The Diplomats end the day in seventh place with 20 points, while Johns Hopkins leads the pack with 93.5 points.
Top Performances
-Ward's first win of the day came in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 5.61 meters (18'-5"). With that effort she not only topped her season best by more than half a meter, but also obliterated the school record by 10.25 inches.
-The junior returned to the top of the podium in the high jump, recording another season-best effort with a height of 1.62 meters (5'-3.75").
-Abby Grehlinger also competed in a final on the day, taking 10th and narrowly missing the points in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:54.86.
-Rachel Wylie led a crew of Diplomats competing in preliminary rounds for tomorrow's finals. The freshman qualified in first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.00. That time betters her own school record of 1:04.05, which she set just last weekend, and gave her the fastest qualifying time by more than two seconds.
-Kaitlin Muccio also qualified for a final, as her time of 1:01.52 was the fifth fastest in the 400-meter dash prelims.
-Aleksandra Kiszka will also see action in a final tomorrow after recording the seventh-fastest time in the prelims of the 100-meter hurdles. She finished with a time of 17.28.
-Chelsea Frantz just missed an appearance in the finals of the 800-meter run, taking 11th in qualifying with a time of 2:28.03.
