No. 11 Diplomats Cruise over Frostburg in Shadek Opener

LANCASTER, Pa. – No. 11 Franklin & Marshall opened Shadek Stadium in grand fashion with a 20-9 victory over Frostburg State in men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 2-0 while the Bobcats dropped to 1-1. 

Sean Rogers led all scorers with six points (5g, 1a) to reach 200 career points and became just the fifth player in program history to reach the 200-point milestone.

Luke Keating and Jarrett Donaghy both tallied three points with two goals and one assist each and John Sommi ended with a goal and an assist. Kevin Mollihan recorded a hat trick, George Briggs struck twice and Drew DeBacco, Christopher Casey, Andrew Towne and Jamie Spruance all scored once. Ronan Garcia added an assist for F&M.

Christopher Casey paced the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls, Jarrett Donaghy had three ground balls and two caused turnovers while Ellis Llewellyn ended with six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Andrew Rose went 15-for-24 from the X.

Scott Hatch picked up the win with nine saves and improved to 2-0, while Jack Marks took the loss with 11 stops and fell to 1-1.

Two goals by Sean Rogers in the first quarter were matched by Frostburg to make it 2-2 at the end of the first. F&M hit another gear in the second with seven straight to start out the frame and took a 9-2 lead at with 3:52 left. Frostburg netted a goal at 2:32 and Kevin Mollihan struck as time expired to give F&M a 10-3 lead at the break.

F&M put two through in the first two minutes of the third and after a goal by the Bobcats at 9:09, F&M struck twice to make it 12-3. FSU answered with three straight to make it 14-7, but the Diplomats netted the last two of the quarter for a 16-7 lead heading into the final quarter. After an early goal in the fourth from Frostburg, F&M outscored the Bobcats 4-1 to secure the win.

F&M dominated in shots at 50-29, held a 39-27 edge in ground balls and went 17-for-18 on clear attempts.

The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when the Diplomats travel to Susquehanna for a 4:00 p.m. game.
