GETTYSBURG, Pa. – A back-and-forth contest finally gave way in the 12th inning and resulted in a tough 4-3 (12 innings) Franklin & Marshall loss to Gettysburg on Friday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball competition.

The defeat marked the first Conference loss of the season for the Diplomats (8-9-1, 3-1 CC) while the Bullets improved to 7-13, 1-3 CC.

Knotted at 3-3 in the bottom of the 12th, Gettysburg started off with an infield from leadoff hitter Chuck Probst, who promptly advanced to second off a balk. A sacrifice bunt moved the go-ahead run to third base with one out, and Ryan Lacoe manufactured the winning score with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Kelsey Launi got the game's first run on the board in the top of the first. The freshman left fielder stepped to the plate with runners on first and second and laced a single to center that allowed J.J. Freeman to cross home for the 1-0 edge.

After the Bullets tied the game in the bottom of the third, F&M responded with a Freeman RBI single that plated Dan Baroff.  Gettysburg captured the lead with runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth frames for the 3-2 edge before Baroff tied the contest with an RBI single to right field in the seventh.

F&M starter Mike Androconis kept the Diplomats in the contest with 7 2/3 innings, allowing three earned and striking out nine. Danny Blugis (0-1) suffered the loss out of the bullpen after surrendering one earned off two hits in 2 2/3 innings of work. Reliever Jonny Bray (1-0) was credited with the win after tossing the final 4 1/3 shutout frames.

The edge in hits belonged to the Diplomats at 11-10. Freshman Matthew Kann continued to lead the offense from the cleanup position with a 2-for-3 effort while drawing three walks.

Freeman notched a 2-for-6 effort with one RBI, a run scored and a stolen base, while Launi was 2-for-5 with a walk and an RBI. Shortstop Joe Giovinco paced the Bullets with a 3-for-5 showing.

F&M continues CC play tomorrow with a key doubleheader against Haverford at Caplan Field. First pitch is set for 12:30 p.m.
