COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's No. 4 ranked men's soccer team battled back from an early first-half deficit to take down Ursinus by a 2-1 score on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Centennial Conference (CC) victory improved the Diplomats to 12-1, 5-0 CC while the Bears fell to 4-6-1, 0-4-1 CC.
F&M, who has now won 11 consecutive games dating back to Sept. 7th, dominated the stat sheet despite the close score. Shots heavily favored the Diplomats by a 20-3 margin and corners belonged to F&M at 6-0.
However, it was Ursinus who got on the scoreboard first, forcing a turnover in the Diplomats' defensive third and firing a high shot in the 16th minute for the 1-0 edge.
That lead was short-lived as F&M responded just five minutes later. Alex Lalovic tallied his sixth goal of the season, taking a cross from Dallen Moore and evening the game with a close-range goal.
Despite numerous scoring opportunities, the Diplomats were unable to add on until the 81st when a scramble in the box was collected by A.J. Kopacz, who laid off a short pass to Kane Feudtner. The sophomore forward made good on his chance, scoring the first goal of his career and putting F&M in front for good.
Feudtner led the offensive charge with four shots on the day while five Diplomats added two each.
Goalkeeper Christopher Amoruso improved to 12-1 with one save in 90 minutes. Tyler Lewin (4-6-1) was charged with the loss despite turning back six shots.
A key matchup with national implications awaits the Diplomats next Saturday when F&M hosts No. 7 Johns Hopkins for a 1:00 p.m. game on Tylus Field.
