Men's Squash Goes 1-1; Nearly Upsets No. 10 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Franklin & Marshall's No. 16 men's squash team went 1-1 on Sunday to close out competition at the Mid-Atlantic Championships in Virginia. The Diplomats, who now sit at 12-5 on the season, upended No. 15 George Washington by a 5-4 tally before falling just short in a rally against No. 10 Virginia at 5-4.

By the Numbers (George Washington) 

Although George Washington controlled the top of the order with wins in each of the top three spots, F&M dominated the No.'s 4-8 positions with a perfect 5-0 mark.

Aryan Parekh (No. 4) and Boden Polikoff (No. 6) each battled back from 2-0 deficits for eventual 3-2 wins. Sunday's victory snapped a two-match losing streak to the Colonials as the Diplomats are now 39-2 in the series.

By the Numbers (Virginia) 

Trailing by a 4-2 team score, the Diplomats stormed back with wins by Yannis Senkel at No. 5 and Matthew Dukarm at No. 7. The decisive match occurred at No. 3 where Silvio Soom jumped out to the 1-0 lead with an 11-7 opening-game victory. However, Virginia's Toby Hansford rattled off three in a row to seal the 3-1 individual win, as well as the match for Virginia.

F&M returns to the courts on Saturday when the Diplomats host members of the Centennial Conference for a one-day tournament. Action opens against Haverford at 10:30 a.m. while Dickinson and Johns Hopkins square off at 1:00 p.m. The Championship match is currently slated for a 6:00 p.m. start.
