Box Score

Box Score

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall's baseball team fell to Elizabethtown by a 13-3 score on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference competition on the road.

The Diplomats, who entered action with a five-game winning streak, saw their overall record drop to 11-3 on the year while the Blue Jays improved to 5-9.

Tied at 2-2 heading into the sixth inning, Elizabethtown ran away with the game by tallying nine runs off of seven hits and an error in the bottom half of the frame. The Blue Jays tacked on two more runs in the seventh as F&M was unable to cut far into the deficit, other than an Alex Miller sacrifice fly RBI in the top of the eighth to pull the Diplomats within 10.

F&M got off to a strong start in the top of the first when Kyle Ebert drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a balk, and made it home off a DiLoreto RBI double to right-center for the 1-0 edge.

That lead held until the fourth when Elizabethtown knotted the contest with an RBI triple to center field. Kelsey Launi gave the advantage to the Diplomats once again with his two-out RBI single through the right side in the fifth that plated J.J. Freeman from third. Elizabethtown once again had an answer, responding with an RBI single of its own in the bottom half of the frame to tie it up at 2-2 before erupting for nine runs in the fifth.

Ebert, Launi, DiLoreto and third baseman Will Samuel all tallied a pair of the Diplomats' nine hits. The Blue Jays recorded 15 hits on the afternoon, including seven doubles and two triples.

Starting pitcher Jonathan Pesantez was effective in his no-decision, tossing five innings and allowing two earned runs on six hits.

Reliever Charlie Wright (2-1) suffered the loss after being charged with four earned off three hits. Nathaniel Barnes (1-0) picked up the Elizabethtown win out of the bullpen with a scoreless sixth inning.

The Diplomats get right back at it tomorrow by heading to Scranton for a 5:00 p.m. contest.
