Diplomats Dropped by Gettysburg

Box Score

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall baseball saw their three-game Centennial Conference (CC) winning streak come to an end with a 10-2 loss against Gettysburg at Caplan Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Diplomats' season record fell to 19-12, 6-5 CC while the Bullets improved to 15-14, 4-7 CC.

Gettysburg notched the game's first run with a two-out RBI double in the top of the second to take the 1-0 edge. That tally held until the fifth inning when a pair of costly F&M errors and three Bullet hits led to four more Gettysburg runs and a 5-0 hole for the Diplomats.

In the top of the eighth, the Bullets broke the game open with five more runs on four hits and an error to secure the decisive 10-run advantage. F&M's offense finally got going in the bottom half of the frame when J.J. Freeman led off with a double to right field, and Danny Blugis followed with a single to place runners on the corners.

Kelsey Launi reached on a fielder's choice that plated Freeman, and a Kyle Ebert grounder later in the frame allowed Blugis to cross home plate as well to cut the deficit to eight. However, that was all the closer F&M got as the Diplomats were retired in the next at-bat.

Starter Matt Devlin (2-2) suffered the loss after being charged for three earned on seven hits in five innings of work. Reliever's Eric Dyke and Kurt Elmer were reliable out of the bullpen with a combined 1 2/3 shutout innings with two strikeouts.

Myles Burbank (3-3) earned the Gettysburg win after throwing eight frames, allowing two earned off just four hits and striking out a pair.

Blugis went 1-for-2 with a run scored and three walks while Lammers stole a base and drew a walk.

The second half of the series concludes on Thursday when F&M travels to Gettysburg for a 3:30 p.m. start.
