Diplomats Fall to No. 24 River Hawks

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall fell to Susquehanna 42-13 in Centennial Conference football action Saturday afternoon. The loss is the first for F&M this season as the Diplomats dropped to 3-1, 2-1 CC, while the River Hawks improved to 3-1, 2-1 CC.
 
First Quarter (F&M – 0 | SU – 7)
Both teams traded possession early in the first, before Susquehanna went ahead 7-0 with 5:50 left in the first quarter on a 5-play, 49-yard drive.
 
Second Quarter (F&M – 0 | SU – 28)
The River Hawks dominated the second and tacked on 21 more points for a 28-0 lead the break.
 
Third Quarter (F&M – 0 | SU – 35)
F&M continued to struggle to move the ball in the third and Susquehanna capitalized. The River Hawks put seven more on the board after an 8-play, 46-yard that ended with 2:36 left in the third.  
 
Fourth Quarter (F&M – 13 | SU – 42)
Thomas Downs picked off Hezekiah Patterson and returned the ball 28 yards to the River Hawks' 7-yard line on Susquehanna's first possession of the final frame. A two-yard and five-yard rush by Joe Hartley-Vittoria resulted in F&M's first score of the game at 12:18 in the fourth.
 
The River Hawks countered on their next possession with score and F&M responded with the final touchdown of the game. The Diplomats put together an 18-play, 86-yard drive that was capped off when Jack Donaghy found Grant Gale for an 8-yard touchdown.
 
Final Numbers
Joe Hartley-Vittoria racked up 60 yards on 15 carries with one score, while Eric Harris picked up 33 on 10 rushes. Jack Donaghy had 46 yards on five completions with a score and Grant Gale hauled in two passes for 17 yards and a touchdown.
 
Marlen Fenstermacher paced the defense with five stops (3 solo), including one for a loss and Kevonte Beard along with Peyton Snopek both ended with five stops each.
